This beautifully restored vintage chest of drawers has been transformed into a true one-of-a-kind statement piece, combining elegant French-inspired styling with a bespoke hand painted finish. Rather than choosing a single colour, we created a soft ombré effect using Calm Curlew and Cove White by Sophie James Decor, allowing the shades to gently flow into one another across the drawer fronts. The result is a subtle gradient that adds depth, softness and individuality while complementing the graceful proportions of the furniture.

Decorative carved mouldings, an elegant shaped apron and classic bun feet give this painted vintage chest of drawers all the charm expected from quality period furniture. To enhance these original features, the carved detailing has been delicately highlighted with Pale Gold, creating a gentle contrast that catches the light without overpowering the neutral colour palette.

The carefully selected vintage-style handles have been reclaimed from another piece of furniture, helping to retain an authentic appearance while continuing our commitment to reusing quality materials wherever possible. Small decisions like these ensure every restoration has its own personality rather than becoming simply another painted piece of furniture.

How This Piece Was Restored

Creating the ombré finish required far more than simply applying two paint colours. After thorough preparation, the chest was hand painted using multiple blended layers, carefully feathering the transition between Calm Curlew and Cove White to achieve a smooth, natural gradient across the drawer fronts. The carved mouldings were then individually highlighted with Pale Gold to add definition without distracting from the soft colour blend.

Finally, reclaimed vintage-style handles were fitted to complete the design, giving the chest a finish that feels elegant, balanced and entirely unique. Every stage of the restoration was carried out by hand in our County Durham workshop, ensuring the finished piece reflects the care and attention that goes into every item we restore.
